Arts of Resistance
In this section, we explore the way that traditional Refaluwasch beadworking and music plays an important role in the movement to protect the Northern Mariana Islands, with a focus on the northern islands, including Pagan (where Cinta Kaipat was raised). In these stories, Cinta describes her connection to the people and places that inspired the creation of her music and lighatutuur (Refaluwasch beadwork). Woven together, they comprise just some of the everyday experiences that both speak to our connections to this beautiful archipelago and highlight our intersections with contemporary colonialism. Click through the various pages below to navigate your way through these stories, music and photography.
